Ask one question and most of your feed sorts itself out.
Where does the money come from, and does the story match?
Not "does this work", which is unanswerable and which everyone asks anyway. Just: whose money is it, and who had it first. Almost every offer you scroll past at eleven at night answers that question if you hold it there long enough, and a fair number of them stop being interesting the moment it is asked.
Three piles.
The things that work
They are all slower than they look in the video.
The quickest is doing work for someone who already has a budget. Freelancing, contract work, a service. Editing, bookkeeping, translation, video cuts, admin, design. Nobody makes content about this because there is nothing to make content about, but it is the only route here with no waiting phase, since the money already exists and is looking for someone to hand it to. It scales badly. It also pays in March.
Then there is selling something you make. A print-on-demand shop, a Notion template, a preset pack, a guide, a small run of something physical. The economics hold up. The timeline does not: four to eight weeks to a first sale is a good result, plenty of people take three months, and the ones who stop at week three vastly outnumber the ones who were ever going to fail.
Selling what you know is the same shape, with one condition attached. It works when what you know is specific and took effort to acquire. It does not work when it is a tidier version of things already sitting on YouTube for nothing, which is most of what gets sold in this category, and which is why the category has the reputation it has.
Building something and charging for it is real and is not passive. App stores reject builds for reasons that only become obvious after the second read of the guidelines. Payment code fails quietly and does not tell anyone. A launch that takes thirty seconds to describe usually had about four months removed from the middle.
Affiliate links and content sit at the end of this list because of the runway. Recommending things you use and taking a cut is a legitimate business, and it needs an audience, and an audience is roughly a year of publishing before it is worth anything. That number is never in the video either.
What all five have in common: someone else's money moves first. A client pays, a customer buys, a reader subscribes. It arrives from outside and some of it stays. Keep hold of that, because it does most of the work further down.
Where people actually meet what you sell
Whatever you pick from that list, the place people encounter it is one line in a bio. TikTok gives you a single link. Instagram, in practice, the same. That one link has to carry the shop, the booking form, the free sample, the newsletter, and whatever you posted about on Tuesday.
Which is what RelayMe is for. A page at your own name with all of it on there, and a free plan that is not a countdown to a paywall: unlimited links, your photo and bio, social icons, five themes, headings and dividers so a shop does not sit flush against a booking link, tap and view counts so you can see which of the three things people press, a QR code, and a story-sized image of the page for posting. No card. Nothing removed later.
That is not a neutral recommendation, on RelayMe's own blog. So the useful version: we keep a comparison against Linktree that includes the four rows where Linktree wins, and the summary of that page is that both are fine and this decision matters far less than having anywhere at all to send people. Ten minutes. The link in your bio is not the business.
The things that are not scams, but are eating your evenings
Nobody is taking anything from you here. You are being paid badly for something described as an opportunity, or not paid at all.
Survey and micro-task sites pay. That is the problem with them; they pay just enough to keep you there, at a rate below what your time is worth in almost any other use, and month six is identical to month one. Nothing accumulates.
Then there is the genre where the product is the explanation of the product. Videos about making money online, watched by people who have not started. Ten hours of it is not groundwork. A course earns its price once you have started and hit a specific wall you can name; before that it is a way of feeling busy.
Rebuilding the shop instead of selling from it is the sneakiest one, because it produces things. A fourth logo. A fifth theme. A migration to a better platform. At the end of the week there is evidence of work and no sale. And a page builder invites exactly this, ours included: RelayMe has 47 themes and 8 fonts, all of them switchable in the editor on a free account before you have paid for anything, which is generous right up until it becomes Thursday. Twenty minutes with it. Then go and sell something.
Copying a product exactly rarely gets called out as a mistake because it looks like efficiency. Same template pack, same three-video sequence, same script. It occasionally limps along. Mostly it dies on the input that cannot be copied, which is any reason to buy from you and not from the person you copied.
The things that are frauds
These hold their shape across countries, platforms and decades, which is what makes them worth learning once.
Your money moves first and the return is described as certain. Pay for the starter kit, the inventory, the licence, the access to the group where the real information is. Set that against the first pile, where money arrives from a customer. Money going out before any customer's comes in is, at best, an expense on an unproven business. Often it is the entire mechanism. And certainty is the part that makes it fraud rather than optimism, because a real business does not know what next month looks like and will tell you so if asked.
Payment for recruiting rather than for selling. One question settles it: if nobody new ever joined, would there be revenue? If not, the money is coming from the people underneath you, and it runs out. It always runs out. The only variable is where you are standing at the time.
Money that was never yours passing through your account. Receive a payment, keep a cut, send the rest on. Buy crypto with what lands and forward it. Take in a parcel and re-post it. It is dressed up as a payment-processing role, a work-from-home job, or a favour for someone you met online and have not met. Whatever it is called, the name on the account is the name that carries it, and the person who recruited you is protected by exactly that fact. There is no version of this that ends well for the account holder.
Manufactured urgency. Three spots left, price goes up at midnight, doors close tonight. Real deadlines exist. A real one has a reason behind it that survives being asked about, so ask about it and watch what happens.
Testimonials without a surname. Dashboard screenshots are the cheapest thing on the internet to fake. A reference is a person who replies to a message; the absence of one is itself information.
And the lifestyle as evidence. Money that is being made does not need photographing next to a car. The showing off is a marketing expense and you are the one covering it.
One more, quieter and more common than all of them put together. If the business model of the person teaching you to make money is teaching people to make money, then the revenue has been located, and it is you.
This week
The answer is smaller than anyone wants it to be.
Pick one thing you could sell. A service you can already perform, something you can make, an hour of what you know. Put it in front of about thirty people who might plausibly want it. Thirty, not thirty thousand. It is enough to find out whether the offer works and it is a number you can reach before Sunday.
Then leave it running for longer than feels reasonable. The gap between starting and the first sale is where almost everyone gives up, and it is the one part of this that no product shortens.
If you need somewhere to point those thirty people, you can claim a name on RelayMe in about forty seconds. No card, no password to invent, and the page loads without handing your visitors' addresses to a font network and an analytics company on the way in. Which is the same principle as everything above, and the only promise on this page worth making: nobody should have to pay before anyone has paid them.
